The 2020–2025 term marks a strong leap forward for Vietnam’s Agriculture and Environment sector, reaffirming its role as an economic pillar and a foundation for sustainable development.

Despite challenges from the pandemic, climate change, and global crises, the sector has achieved all 9 key targets, many exceeding planned goals:
- Agricultural GDP growth: 3.7%/year
- Agro-forestry-fishery exports: USD 65 billion/year
- Forest coverage rate: 42%
- 80% of communes meeting new rural standards
The sector has undergone a comprehensive transformation:
- The merger of the Ministry of Agriculture & Environment — a historic milestone creating a unified development framework.
- Acceleration of digital transformation, science and technology adoption, and green–circular economic models.
- The environment has shifted from a “supporting role” to a core pillar alongside economic growth.
Vision for 2025–2030
The sector aims to:
- Develop a modern, green, and sustainable agriculture, ranking among the top 15 globally.
- Proactively respond to climate change, reduce emissions, and move toward Net Zero by 2050.
- Drive breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure, science, and high-quality human resources.
- Expand international cooperation, and promote marine economy and green resources.
Acting Minister Trần Đức Thắng emphasized:
“The Agriculture and Environment sector will be the new driving force for a prosperous, green, and happy Vietnam.”
